Bulawayo Healing Clinic (Zimbabwe)
Bulawayo, in Zimbabwe, is Joyce Mabhena’s home city and Zimbabwe is Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo’s second home (she was a Zimbwean citizen for many years after being exiled from Kenya for her activism). Joyce and Mĩcere have been admirers and supporters of the work of Dr. Barbara Sibanda for years.
This amazing lady has combined herbal-based African medical practices with Western medical forms of treatment to provide services for economically deprived citizens, especially those with no health insurance, at incredibly low costs. Because in a lot of situations poverty tends to be gendered and age-discriminatory, a lot of those affected are women and children.
With the economic situation in Zimbabwe so dismal, the up-keep of the clinic is becoming virtually impossible and many lives are at risk. UWAO is not ready to “watch” this tragedy continue to unfold and so is trying to do something about it. Your solidarity means a great deal.
