Gatuambu “B” Community Development (Kenya)
This is a home-based project for needy children in a community in Central Kenya, where Marĩ Mũniũ comes from, started by one woman after observing how children in her area were going hungry, with no decent clothes and unable to attend school. She approached other women in the area and started collecting clothes and food for the children.
The project was started with very few children in the year 2005 and currently there are over 30 children in the program. Among those, 5 are infected with HIV. The program has linked these children to NGOs and individuals that have so far committed to pay school fees for 5 children and to finance out of school programs for 5 children
Most of the time, however, it is the local dedicated women, who are themselves needy, that use their own money to provide for needs such as medicine while supplying food from their own gardens. In 2019, Marĩ Mũniũ travelled to Kenya and personally delivered the donation collected at UWAO’s 2018 fundraising luncheon. She received an update from the organization earlier this year, stating that the monies were used to procure a water tank to help alleviate the water problems faced by the organization and community at large. UWAO continues to thank it’s donors for their contributions, which go a long way to supporting this project.
