Jirani Community Based Organization (Kenya)
With the assistance of volunteers, Jirani aims to provide a homely, supportive and safe environment for impoverished children giving them the opportunity to learn and grow so that they can become a part of the community and our society as a whole. In return, the volunteers will gain experience and fulfillment.
Vision:
- To complete our mission, we aim to give impoverished and needy children the opportunity to receive education, protection, and development in a supportive environment.
- To provide continual guidance at each stage of their life so they can develop an independent future for themselves and become part of society.
Objectives:
- To provide continuing accommodation, food, education, shelter, health care and love to the orphans, victims of natural disaster, children of conflict and children who are forced to live at street and other slum areas.
- To find continual sponsorship and funding for the children with poor economic condition and poor family background.
- To provide volunteer services in different sectors like Education, Culture, Environment and Awareness, and Health in different parts.

For the most recent Luncheon of the year 2018, Jirani CBO sent their recent finance report to UWAO accounting for the funds received. Jirani was able to complete the bole hole which had stagnated due to luck of funds and when they received the funds, they said it was God sent. This was when the country was facing drought season and the boys would walk miles and miles in search of water. The rest of the funds was spent towards food. They bought beans, maize, rice, oil, millet flour, and peas to feed the boys.
In 2021, 8 boys were enrolled at Ndundu secondary school and 9 to vocational training schools. The current challenge remains the issue of outstanding school fees for many of the students.
In the past 5 years, 34 boys have been rescued, rehabilitated and are now attending various public schools. Some of the students are in secondary schools and some in vocational training facilities.
While in Kenya (December 2021) I spoke to the Founder of my organization’s sponsored project, Sister Veronica Nthiga and she says she has 14 boys in high school and 18 in primary school that still require support in every way possible … monetary, prayers, stationery, food, fees and toiletry and stuff like that.
The orphanage is totally sustained by well wishes and the majority of them are badly challenged, economically. Unfortunately, I was not able to go and visit the orphanage as I as fully absorbed with my mother’s illness, as well as my Big Sister’s recovery from THR, (total hip replacement) and my stay in Kenya was brief.
Jirani is very grateful of UWAO’s support, as are all the children and their families. On their behalf, I wish to thank all the donors for their self-giving spirit.
Long live UWAO and sisterhood spirit!
Blessings always,
Monique.
