Mission

Convinced of the need for an organization that would serve to bring women of Africa away from home together for networking, giving each other support and seeking ways to enhance self-determination, the founding member convened a group of individuals together in order to share her vision.

Purpose

To bring together women of African origin, especially those living away from home, for the purpose of networking.

To provide cultural and social support to each other during times of need, crises and also celebration.

To engage in activities that enhance self-sufficiency and agency in order to avoid dependency on others.

To give voice to women of African origin, while providing a structure for addressing injustices of any form against them and others.

To register the presence of Africana women in Central New York (and the U.S.A. at large) as a potential force that can contribute to the development of host communities through social, cultural and other activities.

To engage in fund raising efforts as means of financing the activities of UWAO especially those projects aimed at supporting needy communities locally and internationally.
